Touch Screens: Applications in Sugar Beet Harvesters

Sugar beet harvester is a crop harvesting machine used to collect sugar beet stems, leaves and tubers. Its development history can be traced back to the United States in the 1930s, and has gradually been applied and developed in China. Sugar beet harvester mainly includes top cutter, tuber digger, cleaning and separating device, etc. According to different harvesting process, it can be divided into two-stage harvesting method, three-stage harvesting method and combined harvesting method. Among them, the combined harvesting method is widely used in modern agricultural production due to its advantages of high efficiency, labour saving and convenient operation.

Application environment of sugar beet harvester:

Sugar beet harvesters are mainly used in sugar beet growing areas such as Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Northeast and North China. These areas usually have large farmland areas and require efficient mechanised operations to reduce manpower costs and improve production efficiency. At the same time, due to variable weather conditions, harvesters also need to have the ability to adapt to different climatic and soil environments.

As an important human-machine interaction interface of modern agricultural equipment, the touch screen plays an important role in the sugar beet harvester. Its main functions include:

1. manipulation function: the touch screen provides an intuitive, easy-to-use control interface, the operator can start, stop, adjust the harvester's functions by touching the buttons or icons on the screen, such as adjusting the harvesting speed, cutting height, etc., so as to achieve precise control of the harvester.

2. Status display: The monitor can display the operating status of the harvester in real time, including engine speed, oil pressure, water temperature and other important parameters, which helps the operator to understand the working condition of the harvester in time by using the touch screen and ensure the equipment to run in the best condition.

3. Operation Mode Selection: Modern beet harvesters are usually equipped with multiple operation modes to adapt to different farmland environments and operational needs. The touch screen provides the operation mode selection function, which allows the operator to choose the appropriate operation mode according to the actual situation, in order to improve the harvesting efficiency and operation quality.

4. Improve operational efficiency: The intuitive control and intelligent navigation function of the touch screen makes it easier for the operator to control the harvester, reducing operational difficulties and error rates, thus improving operational efficiency.

5. Reducing labour intensity: automation and intelligent control through the touch screen reduces the need for the operator to directly operate the harvester and reduces labour intensity.

6. Enhance the quality of operation: the touch screen provides a variety of operating modes to choose and precise control functions, making the harvesting operation more refined and personalised, thus enhancing the quality of operation.

7. Enhance the reliability of the equipment: the touch screen replaces the traditional operating buttons, has a longer service life, avoids the expansion of faults, and enhances the reliability and stability of the equipment.

Sugar beet harvester application environment has the following characteristics of the touch screen requirements:

1. durability: the touch screen needs to be waterproof, dustproof, shock-resistant and other characteristics to cope with the complex environment of the farmland.

2. high sensitivity: to ensure that the fast operation can also be an accurate response.

3. Intuitive and easy to use: the interface design should be simple and clear, easy for the operator to quickly get started.

4. Stable and Reliable: Maintain stable operation in harsh environments. For example, it needs to have waterproof and dustproof characteristics.

Touch screen in the sugar beet harvester risk:

1. Touch insensitivity or failure:

The surface of the touch screen may accumulate dirt due to long-term exposure to dust, water or oil, resulting in blocked transmission of touch signals, touch insensitivity or complete failure.

Loose or damaged touch screen connecting wires, as well as internal electronic component failure, may also lead to abnormal touch function.

2. Abnormal display:

Aging or damage to the internal components of the touch screen panel may lead to problems such as blurred screen display, serious colour deviation or noise.

Driver problems may also lead to incomplete screen display or misplaced display content.

3. Inaccurate operation:

The touch screen may be inaccurate in operation during use due to improper calibration or external electromagnetic interference, affecting the normal operation of the harvester.

4. Security threats:

There is a risk of malicious attacks on the touch screen device, such as stealing sensitive information in the device or carrying out malicious control by means of electromagnetic signals or acoustic signals, which brings threats to the security of the device and the privacy of the user.

Solutions:

1. Keep the touch screen clean: Check and clean the surface of the touch screen regularly, wipe it with a clean soft cloth dipped in water or special touch screen cleaner to remove dirt and oil.

2. Check and maintain the connecting cable: Make sure the external connecting cable of the touch screen is firm and undamaged, and replace it promptly if it is loose or damaged.

3. Professional maintenance and replacement: For the touch screen internal electronic component failure or display abnormalities and other issues, it is recommended to contact a professional maintenance personnel for overhaul and replacement.

4. Calibrate the touch screen: Regularly calibrate the touch screen to ensure operational accuracy. Most of the touch screen provides calibration function, you can find the relevant options in the system settings and follow the prompts to calibrate.

5. Reduce external interference: Try to avoid parking the beet harvester near sources of electromagnetic interference to minimise the impact on the operating accuracy of the touch screen.

6. Enhance security: Regularly update the device's operating system and security software to ensure that the device is protected from malicious attacks. At the same time, strengthen the education and training of users to improve their security awareness and preventive capabilities.
