Introduction to Optical Bonding Lamination: OCA and COR

Optical lamination is a technology that tightly connects the touch screen to the display, aiming to improve the visual quality, durability and readability of the display. Below is an introduction to optical lamination, including both double-sided adhesive and water-based adhesive.

Optical lamination works by filling the gap between two surfaces with a clear adhesive or glue and ensuring uniform contact between the two surfaces by means of pressure, heat, or UV curing. This contact eliminates air or liquid between the surfaces, which reduces reflections and refractions and improves the contrast, brightness, and readability of the display. In addition, optical lamination can also improve dustproof, waterproof and shock-resistant performance, extending the service life of the display.

Double-sided adhesive lamination method

Material: optical adhesive, OCA (Optically Clear Adhesive), is a layer of special double-sided adhesive with optical transparency.

Features:

1. High Transparency: It has colorless transparency and light transmittance rate above 90% to ensure that the display after lamination maintains a clear visual effect.

2. High Adhesion: Provides strong adhesive force to ensure the touch screen and display are tightly adhered.

3. Clear: Reduces glare, reduces the loss of light emitted from the LCD, increases the brightness of the LCD and provides high transmittance, reducing energy consumption; increases contrast, especially under strong light exposure.

Disadvantages:

1.OCA adhesive film surface with sticky, easy to leave marks on the surface when peeling the release film, easy to produce bubbles when laminating. Easy to adsorb dust and impurities causing secondary pollution.

2.OCA adhesive film and FILM lamination process, manual paste pressure is not uniform, easy to wrinkle bubbles.

3.OCA has poor fluidity, and it is difficult to fill the grooves of ITO line or ink for sensor lamination or coverglass lamination.

4.OCA is not good for large size lamination, low production efficiency and high labor cost.

Liquid optical adhesive lamination method

Material: LOCA (Liquid Optical Clear Adhesive) / OCR (Optical Clear Resin), it is a kind of adhesive with high transparency and high fluidity.

Features:

1. High transparency: colorless and transparent, light transmission rate of more than 98%. Good adhesive strength, can be cured at room temperature or medium temperature conditions, and has a small curing shrinkage resistant to yellowing and other characteristics.

2. Good fluidity: able to fill the tiny gap between the touch screen and the display, to ensure that the display has a higher degree of flatness after lamination. If the display has an iron frame first, you can only use this kind of adhesive to do full lamination.

Disadvantages:

1.LOCA curing at the border and FPC is difficult to cure thoroughly, need to carry out side illumination curing;

2. LOCA has the problem of overflow, which requires precise control of the dispensing pattern and higher process control requirements;

3.LOCA is easy to produce bubbles in the process of dispensing, leveling, covering sensor or coverglass.

4.LOCA in the process of leveling, may cause the thickness of the leveling unit area of the glue is not the same.

5. During the curing process of LOCA, the movement on the transportation belt may lead to shift, the larger the area of sensor or coverglass, the more likely to produce.

Comparison between OCA and OCR

1. Operability: The lamination process of double-sided adhesive is relatively simple and easy to operate; whereas the lamination process of water-based adhesive requires higher precision and skill to ensure even distribution of the adhesive and to avoid the generation of air bubbles.

2. Cost: The cost of double-sided adhesive is usually lower, which is suitable for mass production and cost control; whereas water-based adhesive is more costly, but can provide higher lamination quality and visual effect.

3. Applicable scenarios: double-sided adhesive is suitable for scenes that do not require high lamination accuracy; while water-based adhesive is more suitable for scenes that require higher lamination accuracy and visual effect.

To summarize, the optical lamination technology of touch screen and monitor closely connects the touch screen with the monitor by using adhesives such as double-sided adhesive or liquid optical adhesive, thus enhancing the visual quality, durability and readability of the monitor. When choosing the lamination method, it is necessary to weigh and choose according to the specific application scenarios and needs.
