In the field exploration instruments, the size selection and characteristics of the touch screen design needs to be comprehensively considered environmental adaptability, operational efficiency and equipment portability.
1. Reasonable size analysis
Recommended size range: 7 ~ 12 inches
Portability and visibility balance:
Smaller than 7 inches (such as 5 ~ 6 inches) although portable, but complex operations (such as map labeling, data entry) easy to accidentally touch, and the information display is confined.
Larger than 12 inches (e.g. 15 inches) improves multitasking ability, but increases the size and power consumption of the device, which is not favorable for carrying in the field.
Typical Scenario Adaptation:
7~8 inches: suitable for handheld devices (such as portable spectrometers, GPS terminals), one-handed grip, taking into account the basic operation.
10~12 inches: suitable for fixed or vehicle-mounted equipment (such as seismic monitors), supporting multi-parameter display and complex interaction.
2. Key Characteristics
(1) Environmental adaptability
High brightness (≥1000 nits): to cope with strong direct light, to ensure that the sun can be seen.
Wide temperature operation (-20℃~60℃): adapt to extreme cold or desert high temperature environment.
Dust and waterproof (IP67/IP68): Prevent sand, dust and rain from intruding, need to pass military specification MIL-STD-810G certification.
(2) Optimization of touch control technology
Capacitive Screen + Glove Mode: Supports operation with thick gloves.
Wet hand/dirt touch control: Avoid rain or mud causing touch control failure.
Impact-resistant design: Use tempered glass (e.g. Corning Gorilla) or explosion-proof film to prevent shattering from drops.
(3) Power consumption and battery life
Low power consumption panel: Extend battery life, especially in the field without power supply.
Sunlight readable mode: Reduce power consumption by adjusting refresh rate and backlight.
(4) Interaction Design
Anti-touch algorithms: Lock non-operational areas (e.g., palm-touch suppression).
Physical button assist: Retain key hard buttons (e.g. power, emergency stop) to cope with touch malfunction.
(5) Data Reliability
Anti-static interference: avoid exploration electronic devices (e.g. electromagnetic meters) to interfere with touch signals.
In the field exploration work, the equipment needs to face the harsh environment: strong sunlight, rain, sand and dust, extreme temperature changes ...... ordinary touch screen is difficult to work stably under such conditions. For this reason, WIWOTOUCH launched a 7-inch high-brightness waterproof touch screen specially designed for field exploration, equipped with high-performance ILI2511 touch chip, supporting USB interface, with excellent environmental adaptability and operating experience.
